Round 1 Match 48

Shagarific Slugfest!
Lara: Controversial female protagonist of the Tomb Raider franchise. Some see her as overly sexualized and violent, and Angelina Jolie's incarnation didn't help matters. Maybe in the next game Countess Croft should start adopting third world children.
Austin: Danger is his middle name, and catchphrases are his game. The Austin Powers movie series is probably the only franchise to give The Simpson's a run for most recognizable quotations.
Criteria: Throughout all her adventures, Lara has been trying to look over her shoulder at that guy whose been following her around looking at her butt. She finally does, and look who she finds. "Yeah baby!!"

Round 1 Match 47

Sprite Smackdown!
Link: The hero of the "Zelda" series of games, featured mostly on the Nintendo systems. Also a mainstay of many costume parades at comic and sci-fi conventions.
Pikachu: (Gesundheit!) As the leader of the Pokeman craze, this little guy was either the greatest thing ever, or a spawn of Satan, depending on your age. Remember how this craze broke into North America? The stories of kids getting seizures from the rapid barrage of images? Pop culture that makes you swallow your tongue, now that's cool!
Criteria: Both are from gamer culture, and both have been parodied on Drawn Together. This one is a close call. Choose carefully!

Round 1 Match 46

Rotund Rumble!
Miss Piggy: She was the original diva, the primo prima-donna, and she got the boy (frog) in the end. What's not to like about Piggy, except her resemblance to Star Reynolds?
Winnie the Pooh: Who doesn't love this dim-witted, sweet-toothed, swag-shilling bear? Pervasive is an understatement for an icon co-opted for everything from toothpaste to taoism.
Criteria: Obvious one here. Pie eating contest.

Round 1 Match 45

Detective Duel!
Nancy Drew: The feminist counter to the Hardy Boys, she was as stylish as Daphne, but drove herself around and didn't have to hang out with stoners. Think Veronica Mars with lots of hairspray.
Fox Mulder: Think TV like "Lost" or "Heroes" is hip now? They've got nothing on the X-Files. Mulder and Scully absolutely RULED the TV zeitgeist during the 90's.
Criteria: Scully is sick (or missing) with another alien virus (or pregnancy), and Ms. Drew is called in by Skinner to help keep Fox in check. Who will break "The Case of the Haunted Hairbrush from Hell? You decide!
