Big Bird is probably bigger (no pun intended, for once), but if the contest is about cool, I'll vote for E.T.
Big Bird never once waivered in his belief in Snuffleupagus all those years that no one else could see him. In fact, he believed it so much he actually has induced a mass hallucination on seasame street. Now that is power. Eerie as it is...
I think that if you are looking at who had the biggest effect on popular culture I would have to vote E.T.

But TH swayed me - ET was truly a pop culture phenomenon.
i think his popularity and renown will outlast the brid's (although not necessarily the umbrella that is Sesame Street...)
