Round 2 Match 23
Youth Culture Battle!
Talk about a showdown! There may be a slight edge to the wizard as far as demographic breadth. However, Ariel may make up for it in sheer intensity shown by her fans, (suggest to any little girl that Ariel is uncool, but put your shin guards on first).

The Little Mermaid made teaching swimming lessons a breeze. All the kids loved her and the rest of the characters and all you had to do was call a kid a guppy to make them try something new. That, and show them the drain grate submerged under 12 feet of water and explain that's where Ursula lived and if they were bad we would put them down there...
Thinking back, we weren't very encouraging.
Ariel also sparked my love for redheads which continues to this day.
However, Harry has renewed the art of reading and although he sold out to the mass media, he has done more good than bad.
It is a tough one, but I am going to have to tip my hat to Mr. Potter.

Wow... I think this may be the toughest one yet. Harry Potter inspired millions of children to pick up a book. And I have to agree with ahhh_crap that the Little Mermaid definitely aided in teaching swimming lessons. Plus she made me dance and sing about utensils. And she was influential to me as a 4 year old and the 4 year old I babysit for now loves her... that's a cross-generation icon. Plus on the weekend I almost bought the movie on DVD. I never almost bought a Harry Potter movie.
I pick... the mermaid.
I pick... the mermaid.
Ariel is pretty darn iconic - especially around our house - but Harry is definitely the bigger icon. He bests the mermaid, soundly...
Mr. Potter on this one.
A cultural phenomenon, whether you like him or not, that has changed the face of book publishing and children's reading habits the world over.
Also, Harry would kick Ariel's scrawny little ass in a showdown!
