Round 2 Match 8

Bunnies? Dora loves Bunnies!
This is truly a battle between two generations. In one corner, Dora is the current pre-school soma; inoffensive and educational, but a little saccharine and condescending. In the other corner, Bugs represents the satirical and edgy themes of animation; definitely not designed for children, but later cleaned up and appropriated by TV as kiddie fare. Who is cooler? The classic rabbit who sold out to the man, or the modern marketing giant in orange shorts? You decide!

Comments:
If we're talking pre-code Bugs then I'm ALL OVER HIM. He was wacky and INSANE! I should hunt for a link to an old cartoon image (or video) but after yesterday's relaxing walk along Dunlop (following the mysterious puzzle pieces) I'm kinda beat.

"Neaa, What's up Doc?" beats "We did it, we did it!" by a landslide.

I never vote, so this should count as like a double-vote. Since I'm now plagued by Dora every single day, my vote has to be for her.

C.

As a colleague said, Dora changed the landscape of children's cartoons. The educational and interactive side of the show has been copied and incorporated in so many of the cartoons we see now.
However, is she around to stay? Sure the after effects of what Dora brings to the world of cartoons may be felt long after she has been reduced to occasional spots on Treehouse holiday specials.
Bugs, though, has proven longevity. He still makes us smile, and with the new SuperHero versions palyingon tv now, the younger generation recognizes him too! I have to go with Bugs.

Straw vote at the office:

Dianne - Dora
Erik - Bugs
Tenille - Bugs

with all due respect to the new generation and their affinity for screechy Dora, there is no way in hell she is a greater icon than Bugs. i guarantee that 10 years from now this new generation will want to watch Bugs way more than Dora and that affinity will last for the rest of their lives.

what's up doc?

Dora going DOWN is what is UP!

I agree with moxy - the dora votes are all "I have to watch her" and the bugs votes are all "bugs is better"

Bugs for the win!

I have to go with Dora for this one. I am not sure why, but all toddlers love her. Granted it is a short phase, but involves love and admiration that just can't be felt for Bugs.

So, not only am I giving her some props for creating shower time, but I think that she is infact more influential - just for an age that most of us can't remember.

G votes Bugs because "he's my favourite aminal."

Since I'm not in preschool, nor do I hang out with preschoolers (oh wait, that's not entirely true... but I don't watch tv with them) I must vote Bugs!

What's up doc?

Dora is my vote---I do not know any small child that does not like Dora.
