Round 1 Match 25

Natural Selection Battle! Dolphins vs Sharks!
Flipper: Lassie under water. Assists with rescues and prevents water-based crimes. Once the crooks get out of the boat, not so much.
Jaws: The terror from beneath. The historical influence of Jaws is obvious, shown in the sequels of gradually decreasing quality, and the rip-off movies involving other various fauna.
Criteria: Dolphins and sharks have been natural enemies for years. Now, their greatest champions face off once and for all. Your votes will decide the future of the marine food-chain!

Dum Dum.

Dum Dum.

Truly, that image of a shark is more influential than people realize - Here's an example: My aunt and uncle had a poster on the inside of their cottage bathroom with a toilet and that shark face coming out.

My parents protested that no sharks lived in Lake Erie. I was rational enough to recognise that even if one did, it could not fit up the pipe to the toilet. All the same, I was terrified to make my business there.

This kind of fear is inspired by a movie villain that you can avoid by not going swimming!

Jaws eats flipper as an hors d'oeuvre and is still hungry next round.

Knock Knock

"Pizza"

"I didn't order a pizza"

"Courier"

"You're that Land Shark aren't you?"

"No ma'am, just a friendly dolphin"

"Oh, in that case... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

I don't think Discovery Channel would have been created if it weren't for Jaws. And Jacques Cousteau would have been out of business years ago. And Steve Irwin may still be alive...

Jaws set in motion a general population fascination with marine biology and ecology.

Jaws takes a bite out of the competition

Shark vs dolphin - Shark, cause sharks eat dolphins

Sharks eat dolphins, that's funny...

For no other reason than that, I'm voiting jaws!

nice to see the four year old get some love....

But back to Amazing Race.

A tough one indeed. They have the disadvantage that they can not travel on land, so I think that neither will do extremely well in the competition. The best they can hope for is to get one of the fabulous Travelocity vacations, but I do not see a top five finish for either hydrophilic competitor.

Interestingly enough, the producers have paired the two for the race. They logically thought that with similar challenges they would be able to help each other. Perhaps the dolphin could use his blowhole to splash water on the shark's gills to increase dry land tolerance. However, they quickly realized their mistake when Flipper read the wrong directions on the first day. Jaws temper got the best of him... Yep, I am afraid he ate the dolphin....

For interest sake, he was given a 30 minute time penalty for this, but was still able to compete in the next day's leg.

I LOVE dolphins... Sharks scare me... so I never saw the Jaws movies... I may be the only person on the planet who hasn't seen them...

However, Jaws is WAY more iconic than Flipper... so as much as it pains me to say it...

Jaws wins
