Round 1 Match 8
Battle of the "Smooth Operators"
Archie Andrews: Don't let that gee-gosh expression fool you; this guy is a major player. He had two girls fighting over him, and still made a play for every nurse, foreign exchange student, and pizza delivery girl in town. All that with a broken down car and a head that looked like a waffle iron. Talk about a big fish in a small pond...
Yogi Bear: The original Trailer Park Boy. Cool as a cucumber with a pic-a-nic basket, he always got the better of Ranger Smith. So cool he became the franchise player for the whole menagerie of Hanna Barbara animal characters.
Criteria: Archie has mistakenly arranged a picnic date in Jellystone with both Betty and Veronica at the same time. Yogi wants the picnic food for himself. Discuss.

The criteria set forth in this battle sets Archie up for a fall, leading me to wonder if one of the convenors has Yogi in their pool.
1) In order for Archie to win the battle he is going to have to deny Yogi (and in turn BooBoo) a meal, which may result in malnutrition and scurvy. Archie is the bad guy.
2) The scenario makes Archie a villan for toying with the emotions of two beautiful young womeen with a soft spot in their hearts for him. By inviting both to the same spot at the same time, shows insensitivity to their feelings and really highlights that he is using the same tactics on both in an effort to get into their pants. Archie is the bad guy.
Having said that, I will try to work through the scenario and have our red-headed hero come out victorious...
Archie, upon discovering his grave error, wisely has the girls meet him at different ends of the secluded picnic area. He enlists the help of Jughead to pull off the double-date. Knowing that Jellystone park is famous for its conniving bears, Archie rents Jughead a bear costume.
Archie plans to meet Betty at noon and Veronica at 12:30. At precisely 12:15, Jughead, in full garb, comes out of the woods and heads right for the picnic basket. Betty screams. Archie jumps up, scares the pretend bear off and chases him into the forest.
Yogi and BooBoo, initially drawn to the scene by the smell of the picnic, are distracted by the sight of the most beautiful female bear they have ever laid eyes on. Archie did not check the costume to see what sex it was. The two bears give chase to rescue the maiden in distress.
Once in the forest, Archie thanks Jughead and asks him to do the same thing in half an hour over where he will be sitting with Veronica. Jughead agrees. Archie takes off for his picnic with his other date.
Betty, in the meantime has gone looking for help and runs into Park Ranger Smith. She explains the situation and takes comfort when he says that the bears are harmless. Having always been drawn to men in uniforms, Betty continues the conversation which takes on a friendly-flirting tone.
In the forest, Yogi and BooBoo manage to catch up to the sexy bear and are a little disheartened by her reaction - which was to scream and run away. They give chase for a little while (hilarity ensues) before giving up when they smell a second picnic.
Archie and Veronica have been enjoying their lunch when Yogi pops out of the woods to scare them off. Veronica screams but Archie jumps up and starts chasing the bear. Yogi, who has never experienced this type of behaviour in tourists, it caught off guard and runs back into the forest, with the crazy red-headed guy hot on his tail.
Yogi is wondering what has gone wrong with the world when BooBoo comes out from behing a bush. Yogi is just about to tell him to run when Archie spots the small bear, stops in his tracks, screams in fear and high-tails it away from them.
Archie doesn't stop running. He jumps into his car and heads right home. Veronica and Betty, having packed up the picnics and finding their way home (Ranger Smith drives Betty and Veronica calls for a limo), never find out the truth and think Archie is a hero. Yogi and BooBoo are mystified by the days events and go hungry.
Archie wins.

And I married you - you just left the female to be eaten by the bear!
Yep, the taking your shoe off story will be continually shared.

Archie Andrews rocks. As cute as Yogi and Booboo are, Archie was the boy you couldn't help buy feel sorry for, even as he was manipulating Veronica, Betty and Jughead all at the same time.
Reading Archie comics was a HUGE part of my childhood, and therefore Archie takes the cake for me...

Where is Jack - it is only five minutes to 8, you still have time before part 3 and 4.
As for the Idol search....
It will be a tough battle for Archie. Not because of talent - he has it. And not because of the sex (or preteen age lust) appeal. Again I remind you that everyone should have a redhead to love. But because he is already in a band. And we know, as seen as last year's Canadian Idol, that may put a target on his back.
As for Yogi, he will have one strong supporter in Boo Boo, but I am not sure that bears are allowed to vote, and there are just not enough people living in Yellostone park to make the difference.
So the winner is - Archie!!
(Whew, 7:59 - gotta go. Jack is calling)
