Round 1 Match 13

Transformer vs Performer!
Optimius Prime: The diesel powered leader of the Autobots. Soon to be permeating every conceivable product on the shelves to promote the live action blockbuster coming this summer.
Nemo: The little fish that could. Could propel sales of DVD's, plush replicas, tropical fish tanks, swim-safe diapers, etc. Nemo is the default name for any orange-ish fish for anyone born in this millennium.
Criteria: This could be a classic land vs. sea battle. Or, a sales competition of merchandise revenue.

Comments:
There are over 300 million children living in developed countries. 52% of them are women (could be the reason it seems there are more single women out there than guys).

As marketing people do, let's make a few assumptions.

1) 100 million are between 0-6
100 million are between 7-12
100 million are between 13-18

2) Every child has had equal exposure to Nemo and Transformers

3) All toys are $10

4) Every child has enough money to purchase one toy.

Using the above we get the following:

In the first age category, 98% of girls buy a Nemo toy. Because of their young age, 41% of boys (skewed higher in the 0-3yr range) also pick Nemo.

In the second age group, more females are switch to the fighting toys (13%) and the vast majority of boys also choose Prime and his friends (97%).

The competition for the last age groups $10 extends well past toys. Although the marketing weight of Disney and Mattel do still maintain some sales, the majority of funds go to booze and cigarettes (43% and 22% respectively).

When you add it all up, Nemo is the clear winner, netting $1.35 billion in sales. The Transformer Franchise ends up with an even $1 billion, Du Marier gets $220 million and Growers gets $440 million.

I have little doubt that my kids would identify Nemo, but not Optimus Prime.

But if this contest were only about market penetrance, Ronald McDonald wouldn't have been knocked out. Then again, we would have had a Coca-Cola swish as a choice, and it would be the clear winner.

So long as the contest is about coolness, my vote is for Optimus Prime (but only becuase Bumblebee is no lot in this contest :)

I am veering from my theme of reality show for this week. Only because I have a purpose and a cause of greater value.

I have never heard of Optimus Prime. Perhaps when it is because there were no boys in my house when I was little, or the two channel thing again.

However, Nemo did recently save my sanity on a recent trip to Sudbury. So I have to say....

Shrek for the win!

Don't hate me... I vote Nemo...

Have to go with Optimus Prime. This was my brother's most fervently wished for toy (unfortunately my mom kept hearing Optimal Pie and the clerks at the toy stores thought she was sorta kinda insane...).
