Round 1 Match 10

Ogre vs. Beagle
Shrek: Loud and coarse, but a softy in the end.
Snoopy: Silent and suave. Like a cat in a dog's body, he's the "cool room-mate" to Charlie Brown
Criteria: Obvious. "Dancing with the Stars" competition.

Comments:
Snoopy is a lot of things to a lot of people, but the one common thread each of his tens of millions of fans world-wide share is that they identify with him at a profound emotional level. Snoopy is as popular today as he was when Charles M. Shultz first brought him to life over 50 years ago.

Once again, I believe the criteria for this battle is weighted, making Snoopy the underdog (ha) of this match. Snoopy really is a multi-generational master icon. But what you may not know is his versatility as a dancer...

Shrek learned all his moves from Mike Myers who, although talented, is limited in range and scope of dance styles. Shreks main downfall is that most of his dance routines are meant to garner laughs, not celebrate the art.

Snoopy on the other hand is the original Mumble from "Happy Feet". Snoopy dances from the heart - neigh from his soul - as is apparent in his delightful suppertime dance which sparked the term "Happy Dance". And no one can deny the pure joy one witnesses when watching him dance at the Christmas Concert. Snoopy dances like no one is watching.

He has had extensive training in several disciplines. When downed behind enemy lines by the Red Baron, he met a beautiful barmaid who taught him several ballroom dances in addition to the Can-Can.

Once, while searching for his brother Spike he happened upon a Salsa Dance club and spent a week being trained in all forms of Latin Dance.

Those old enough might remember FlashBeagle, Snoopy's "maniac"-dancing alter-ego. Or you may remember when he took Ballet so he could dance with Lucy.

Whether he is dancing on top of Schroeders piano, dipping Lucy at the end of a tango or breakdancing with Woodstock, Snoopy dances with grace, skill and poise. All with a smile in his heart. This genuine love for the art of dance, coupled with multi-discipline skills will win the hearts of all Dancing with the Stars Judges.

Just writing about Snoopy brings a smile to my face. And that's why, in my heart, he wins.

I dunno man. Snoopy is an icon, but he really doesn't say much. Where does he stand on Iraq? Stem cell research? we're never going to know because the dude doesn't speak.

Sure, he's recognizable, and a media darling, but I suspect most dogs that can use a typewriter are.

I'm not much of a Shrek fan either, and since I'm sterile as the Sahara, no children have dragged me to see any of his movies.

All this said, I guess I have to vote for the canine in the typing pool.

Gavin votes for Snoopy much to my wife's dismay.

Snoopy's got versatility, and he's the original Joe Cool.

Shrek would get the 'current-kid-in-me' vote but as much as I enjoyed his movies the last few years, Snoopy has made me smile for 25 years and his cultural impact is ongoing.

Snoopy wins.

wow - tough one. But, Snoopy stands the test of time. Lauren

I feel torn. Shrek is getting Squashed - and yet I love him so....bad draw my big green friend, bad draw. Although it true Shrek fashion, he is probably happy to be done with all this and go back to his swamp.

So here is how the dancing with stars senario plays out...

Let me set the stage. It is the Panasonic Theatre in Toronto. After the blue man group has sadly departed, the Canadian version of dancing with the stars has made it home. It is the first night, and the stars and contestants are nervous and anixiety is high...

Snoopy come onto the stage, and twirls and whirls. Although impressed by his natural rhythm, and the way that he balances on his canine feet, the judges are a little concerned about his lack of regard for his partner. Afterall, they are paying these stars the big bucks to make an appearance. No too long after, they realize that Snoopy does have an unexplainable star power. Yes, he is a little arrogant and loves the spot light and constantly degrades this one sweet little bald kid. But kids around the world and of all ages are cheering him on.

Shrek on the other hand, initally had problems finding a partner that could balance his size and strength. A few of these rake thin little stars were thrown here and there. Infact, one is still being treated for a broken wrist. However, with a bit of help from a crooked fairy godmother, a beautiful troll was found. (While beautiful for a troll, but that is another story). Once they started dancing the magic began. The dipped, they lifted, they spun. It was art. That is until Donkey reared his little butt. He caused the troll to trip and right into the fairy godmother. Her wand broke with a snap, a crack and a pop (more to come on those competitors later) There was a blinding ray of light and Shrek disappeared from the stage. You see, even though he made us happy and distracted us from our hum drum lives, compared with Snoopy....

Shrek was a flash in the Pan.

You see, even Shreks best friend wants Snoopy to win. You think Donkey would be over in the loser competition helping out Eeyore.

Did the Rice Krispie elves make the list?

Snap Crackle and Pop did not get on the list.
ooops. Next time.

The playful Krispies elves were competing on Dancing with the Stars.. . icon-o-clash. They are not that famous!!!!

It has to be Snoopy. As Jeffy said, the one and only Joe Cool.
