Round 4 Match 2: Potpourri Division
World Cup: Japan vs Canada!
Japanese football star, "Jinpei the Swallow" competes against the tough-as-leather star with the most appropriate name for a soccer parody ever, "Boot". Will Keyop key-eep the ball out of the goal? Or will Boot's formidable footwork dazzle and amaze the fans in the stands again?

you have to at least sign your comment with some kind of a name in order for your vote to be counted.
Otherwise folks get all jittery about panelists stuffing the ballot box with variations of themselves.
Stand up and let us know who you are!

Props to boot; a piece of footwear being instumental in teaching kids to read? There's irony aplenty, and even a fair helping of retro-cool.
Still, Keyop remains the "little guy that could", with hippie hair, and his never-say-die attitude.
The sparrow for me, please

Aww, Boot is so cute. I love the fact that a character from an educational show devoted to getting pre-schoolers started with reading has lasted this far.
However, I'm allergic to cute. I vote for Keyop, who might not have taught kids how to read, but he did introduce thousands to long school-out summer days running and leaping from porches, swingsets, and trees, towels and blankets wrapped around shoulders, screaming "G-Force" while chasing imaginary Spectran goons. Rah Keyop, rah G-Force!

Of all the G-Force characters, Keyop has to be my least favourite. However, I really can't consider something I've never heard of to be more of an icon than he is.
Keyop.
Keyop.
My name is Springie...and I have to vote for Keyop! There's no way I can let the little birdie guy get beaten by a...talking boot??? What an insult...
I've always had a problem voting for someone (or something) I've never heard of, so my vote goes to Keyop!
G-Force!
G-Force!
Keyop gets my vote.
What I want to know is, how could this Daedalus character beat Zoltar? And who the heck is this Stella character that beat Princess?

I remember Boot - it was a very good character from an educational kids show - fond membories there, but all in all I am a G-force fan.
Put my vote for Keyop.

I guess Keyop could be ironically cool as he is the least cool of the G-Force crew. BUT, in the "remember that great cartoon" conversation we have with people, half the group always remembers and loved g-force.
So, i have to stick with the literate footwear! Boot!

By my count, it's 12 to 7 in favour of the little guy from G-Force (not including the unsigned anon. and taking goodurs canada vote as Boots).
Here comes the swing, although props to the person that was working on the Keyop angle.
Props? Did I just say props? Wow, I am so right now...

for real?
THIS is how we're going to decide which character is the most ironically iconic? through ballot stuffing? c'mon 'ahhhh_crap'. give it a rest.
i vote LEGITIMATELY for Keyop.

The inclusion of wagering has indeed added a new element to the exercise; captivating for some, anaethema for others.
Luckily my job is simply to count votes, and leave the fighting to others at the wrap party.
Oh, and count again. I had it as 13-7 for Keyop before you started, so right now we stand at 14-17 for Boot. And there's still time in the day, because to stay consistent with last week's rulings, I must count afternoon votes as well.
Who haven't we heard from? buddhakenji? westbear? leftfishjet? paula? leendert? Where are you when we need you? I'll even call out to The Emergency Blanket for help!

If memory serves me correctly, the purpose of our clash is to measure the strength of argument for an icon's ironic claim to glory. I would hope that mere (coerced) votes have less sway than thoughtfully articulated arguments (like mine, for example).
Admittedly, were ahhhh_crap's minions voting for Keyop, I'd be less vigorous in my objection.
Keyop is a testament to the value of teamwork, of belonging to a community. Even though, an outsider he contributes to a common cause and seeks to strengthen the gifts of those around him. (It's not Sunday; why am I preaching?) He flies in the face of North American me-first-ism and shows humanity a better way to live.
Hmm. My arguments for Keyop and Astroboy keep playing up the android-teaching-us-about-life card. Well, they're stacked up my sleeve to the elbow!
For the love of the planet, and all its citizens: Keyop!
