Round 2 Match 7: Cute/Funny Division

Mister Battle!
He was extremely popular in Round 1, and his Great Space Coaster colleague has already g-nocked of the g-narly g-rrl Jem, but will Mr Line defeat the power of chocolate, nuts, AND caramel? Or will the dapper terrapin prove to be as formidable as that eraser in Mr. Line's cartoons?

Comments:
Does anyone remember if Turtles have peanuts or pecans?
;)

pecans. trust the girl on the cleanse. or rather the girl who just finished her cleanse. :oD

now i want turtles. who's responsible for these images?

I'm waiting for Martin, in a theatre
that's darkened
I found a secret box in Christchurch
Bought a new pen making sure that it works...

I spent my money for some Mr. Line drawings.

Prairie boy-wonder why
Are you the laughing-stock in the
Yankee's eye?
Aways-away and gone awry
On a Wichita Mr. Line

O-Bear votes for the Turtle guy
pp

;;;;;;;;;

MR LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not going with the clever line guy, although clearly he's the underdog and God loves an underdog.

Mr Flatland is going to have it tough in 3D so I say send someone else to the BIG SHOW.

And yet...Pecans are so...what is the word...

nutty?

I go with Mr. Line. Just looking at the picture makes me smile and try for my best imitation - high squeaky voice, finger pointing to the end of the line demanding...something...

yes, there is something genious about something so simple being so legendary...mr.line it is!
Lauren

I agree with Jon A. Mr Line is less popularized, and the more ironic choice!

All hail Mr. Line!

hmmm.
the majority of the world is unaware of my existence, yet I'm pretty sure I do indeed exist.
Hang on. OUCH!!
Yep. Still here.

that makes you ironic, too, a-bear. praps not yet at icon status, but who knows? some day...

Wait...is he really known as "Mr. Line"? I don't think he has a name, does he?

Ahhhh. I present to you a little more of the puzzle that is...

La Linea

Never heard a burrito called a pickle before...
Is there a pickle in the burrito?

Seriously, though, we have to remember all our initial discussions of what constitutes both the irony and the coolness of the icon. Obscurity has always been a factor in the evaluation. The obscure icon is ironic because it is so "unpopular" that it's cool.
Think about the "Vote For Pedro" shirts that went around for a while. If you hadn't seen Napolean Dynamite, the joke would have been lost on you. But, for those who recognized the reference it was the most hilarious thing ever.
Also, as much as I support a relativistic basis for decisions, we can't really go against Mr. Line because of his obscurity, yet also throw out Calvin and Hobbes because they weren't obscure enough to be ironic. Dig?

So there's a fine line (like the one La Linea walks on) between ironic-cool and just trivial and inconsequential. You correctly point out that something that only has resonance with one person wouldn't be very cool, ironically or otherwise, (which is why Puff N Stuff is no longer around)
What the "open to interpretation" voting system does is respect the sliding nature of that line. Many (and yes most of them got the Buffalo TV station) would argue that The Great Space Coaster has enormous recognition value. Folks in Europe would also immediately respond to our linear friend.
But what do I know, I thought Jonny Quest was cool.
