Round 1 Match 15: Potpourri Division

80's Battle!
Gizmo: The symbol of purity and abstinence in the Gremlin culture. Resisted the temptation of the evil side, and suffers "creator" guilt at the havoc his weak-willed offspring create. So, he's like Obi-Wan, but fuzzy.

Pac-Man: Oh, to be a developer in the early days of gaming, when simple ideas like this would take the world by storm. Totally addictive, this historic character has burned itself into our consciousness.

Comments:
I just got in the mail (from a friend in the game review business) a copy of the PS2 game...something about PacMan...I can't remember the title. It's a crappy game. A lot of work went into this title and I'm going to give it away to someone. So we're going to run a social experiment. The best defense of whoever the Pac Man is up against gets the Pac Man Game as a freebie. Yes, the best one to drill Pac Man gets the game.

Let the game within a game to win a game begin...

Pac Man - eating little pills to give him great bursts of energy and allowing him to "eat" the flashing ghosts. Talk about programmers taking drug culture a bit too far... Still you have to give credit to Pac Man for all he did for arcade games - i was never interested in Asteroids, but dug the man of Pac.
However, Gizmo was the one good Gremlin, the only one you could count on. But didn't he seem a little condescending - shaking his head at the other Gremlins, who, really, just wanted a bit of fun - it was their nature. That holier-than-thou attitude may have just cost him my vote... I'm remembering some stuff now.
Now Spike is an icon.
And Pac Man at least managed to score a long-lasting marriage that lasted through the highs and lows of popularity and fame.
A vote for the Pac.

I wish to cast my vote for Gizmo, but not so vigorously as to get the crapioca PS2 PacMan game.

PacMan has been done as an icon - He was a video game pioneer, but has been adequately celebrated for that.

Since then, there have been a slew of miserable sequels. Ms. Pacman was maybe the best. She was sassy, and was an early adopter of the a "non-sexist" title that does not reveal or assume the marital status of the woman [entity] to which it is applied.

Plus she (like Pacman before) was a pioneer of "cut scenes", sequences that advance the plot without requiring action by the player (in her case, little vignettes about her and Pacman chasing each other around that give the player a short break between levels). These have become an integral part of video games today.

Now if she were competing...

Stunning revelation!

The game isn't so bad...

I agree with Jeff - it were Ms. Pacman (altough with the same last name they may have been brother and sister, which throws a whole new twist on the scenario) she'd be getting my vote. However, as the competition stands, it's game over for pacman.
