Non-muppet Puppetry Battle!
Gary Gnu: The Great Space Coaster's anchorman, who stole every show and could give Ron Burgundy a run for his money as the greatest news anchor of all time.
ALF: Gordon Shumway himself, from the planet Melmac. ALF was gone too soon, and should have stuck around to do a little more continuity crossing. That last season of Friends would have been a lot better if ALF showed up to babysit Rachel's invisible baby, don't you think?

Is it the FAMILY GUY that portrayed Alf the Alien as a drug addict from his days on the show? I thought that was funny.

No gnus is good gnus with Gary Gnu. I still use that sometimes.
ALF just got kind of annoying after a while - I think I would have voted for him if he had ever actually eaten the cat instead of just talking about it all the time...

Every time I think of Alf, I think of him as cheesy, one-dimensional, and (as VicBear said), too stupid to catch and eat one [admittedly "Lucky"] cat. Also I hate how he co-opted "yo!" as his greeting.
When I think of Gary Gnu, I think of style which has never been imitated, and journalistic integrity that is unmatched in 2006...
Plus, ALF's name is contentious - although meant to be short for Alien Life Form, he'll be under attack from militant animal rights protesters from the Animal Liberation Front, or the Palestine political Arab Liberation Front, neither of whom wants his face associated with their causes.
I'm not sure who he should fear more.
