Round 1 Match 15: Animal Division

Safety Battle!
Elmer: Not the glue, the safety elephant! In hindsight, if Curious George had hung out a little more with Elmer, he wouldn't have gotten into nearly as much trouble.

Smokey: This sombre and commanding figure sure knew how to make kids pay attention. Look at them straight in the eye and say, "Don't play with fire or it's mauling time!"

Comments:
Only you can stop forest fires.

Go deep, Smokey.

I personally want to apologize for the double post. No, it wasn't enthusiasm but a server error. I don't think Smokey should bear the brunt of your disappointment.

Forgive him.

It was me. I started the fire.

Jeff, you didn't start the fire. It was always burning...
Since the earth was turning.
I like the bear - always have, always will. The elephant does not impress me as much.
To the smoke!

Maybe it's the parent in me - I think that the safety elephant is undervalued as an icon - he just needs an image retooling. If he looked as fierce as smokey does in that picture there'd be more of a battle.

And Smokey has his catchphrase about me being the only one to prevent forest fires. What a responsibility! I can't be everywhere, man!

I can imagine Elmer in an alternative universe: "Elephants never forget, and if you don't buckle up, I'll remember, and I'll come and trample you!"

It could happen.

lol

The bear knows his message and sticks to it. My kids know what the bear is all about.

Poor Elmer is responsible for educating kids on the dangers of everything else. When the message is too big it gets weakened. What Elmer needs is a posse. If it were "Elmer and Friends: The Safety Patrol" with Buckle-up Billy Goat, Keep your Fingers out of the Plugs Platapus and Don't Eat Yellow Snow Snake, then kids would learn the message of universal no-no's in the safety world.

The bear wins for the KISS principle - and the cool hat.
