Round 1 Match 9 Winners

Hamburglar escaped the clutches of the good Cap'n to live another round.

Although, it's worth noting that Cap'n Crunch's uniform incurred the anti-colonialism movement, but this same contingent did not single out Babar last week, who many have criticized for symbolizing European colonialism.

Jeremy trounced Lambchop, mostly due to the demographic of the participants. Seemed like we were all in the same place around 6:30 each night as kids...

Astroboy soared past Calvin as the surprise winner of the week. Calvin seemed to suffer from the "not-obscure-enough-to-be-cool" phenomenon (which, curiously, his tiger friend did not).

Perhaps Calvin should be promoted to the upcoming "Masters" tournament?

Snake-Eyes proved his superiority in icon-ness, as well as Chinese astrology, biblical symbolism and zoological taxonomy.

Comments:
re: colonial voting and Hobbes-but-not-Calvin, consistency of argument has not been a strong suit of mine.

Although you'll find I tend to side with the underdog/"little guy". Also, an Asian connection never hurts.

I ask not for consistency, merely pointing out that each match seems to hold its own exclusive logic. Any criteria is valid.

You guys picked up on my own hesitance to include Calvin. In the same way that Grimace is in the competition, but not Ronald, it doesn't surprise me at all that Calvin did not measure up on the "obscure/ironic" meter.
(and I'm totally serious about the masters tourney BTW. How about Calvin vs Bart Simpson?)

I'd say that Calvin would give Bart a cow, man. Peter Griffin vs. Homer Simpson or Stewie vs. Calvin would be closer calls.

dude the frantics rule

I just s#!t a piece of pie
