Round 1 Match 9: Action Division

Battle of the Bad-Ass Ninjas! Who kicks more tail? You decide!

Snake Eyes: The tragic hero of the GI Joe team. Of all the Joes, Snake Eyes had the most extensive backstory (click on the link for more). And in the end, he got the girl too.

Splinter: The ascetic mentor of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Splinter also has quite the deep and rich history. He was responsible for naming the Turtles, thus ensuring that every child would have a link to Italian Renaissance art.

Comments:
Sounds like Snake Eyes is a richer character objectively, but did he have to teach himself ninjitsu after contacting green ooze?

Did Snake Eyes ever raise turtles?

If so, what a baby! Raising turtles is cool if you're a rat, but for a human ninja, that would be silly.

Splinter in my mind's eye!

G.I. Blah.
Splinter was wise and good. (how could a guy named Snake Eyes be truly good?).
The rat takes the cake (especially cheesecake) (- wow, i can't believe i typed that and i'm going to leave it!)

well, there was that one in the garden. you know, with the apple and such...

Really? We're going to debate the merits of the animals?

Regarding the Plague, the causative organism is thought to be Yersinia pestis, a bacteria that made victims of rats, the same as it did to us. So don't blame the victim, man!

You may be interested to read what the dictionary says a serpent is. I'll give you a hint, though - it's not not a snake.

I have to admit this is NOT the direction I thought this debate would take.
No talk of shuriken skills, or bo-staff skills, or how each of them have played a part in the creation of their nemesis (ie. Storm Shadow and The Shredder)
Some discussion points for you then:
- Snake Eyes is the Phantom of the Opera with automatic weapons. Discuss.
- Splinter is Mr Miyagi with whiskers. Discuss.

[smacked down on "not a dictionary"; of course there's the OED definition]

According to Chinese folklore, rats are creative, honest, generous, ambitious, quick-tempered and wasteful.

Snakes are calm and gentle, romantic and perceptive. However, they may be prone to sloth and vanity.

I wish to change my vote for snake eyes because of his calm, gentle and romantic side. He probably did raise turtles!

If we're still arguing semantics and biblical legend (and I hope we are) I need to point out that it was never an apple in the Garden of Eden that was the forbidden fruit. Nowhere is the Fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil explicitly identified, although it mostly likely was pomegranate.

With that defense of an American icon, I'm voting for the real American hero: Snake Eyes.

Their eyelids are transparent you know, snakes.

...or Katana skills, or stealth skills, or climbing skills...

i didn't watch either of these shows so i have no emotional attachment to either character.

however, after reading about both characters i have to say that snake eyes is much more mysterious, powerful and, if we're going for ironic, WAY more ironic than a character from the annoying ninja turtles series.

snake eyes wins

nice Star Wars reference there, J-dawg!

also,

it's a SNAAAAKE! A SNAAAAAKE!
