Round 1 Match 10: Action Division

Retro-action-turned-contemporary-parody Battle!
Birdman: Hanna-Barbera's winged warrior, recently co-opted as "Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law". Created with all the same prerequisites as most action cartoons of that era (headquarters in a volcano, animal and kid sidekicks, devilish bad guys with logic-defying devices, distant supervisor who wears an eyepatch, etc.)

Space Ghost: Hanna-Barbera's ghost-themed cosmic crusader. A little more successful in his original incarnation than Birdman, has also been parodied in "Space Ghost Coast to Coast". Recently enjoyed a comic book revival, (think "Batman Begins", but in space!).

Comments:
I hear "Birdman" and I think of the NBA player expelled from the league for hardcore drug use.

I hear "Space Ghost" and I think of the lilting melodies of Brak and the ornery blustering of Zorak.

I'm voting for Space Ghost even though I have no real knowledge of who he was intended to be. I only really am familiar with his incarnation on Cartoon Planet. Is that ironic or a testament to his icon-ness/icon-icity?

Bird who? Space what?
i have no idea who to vote for. I am going to "put" Birdman in my left hand and Spaceghost in my right and turn to the person next to me, asking them to pick a hand. One moment please...
Birdman it is.

This is a hard vote for me, but for the opposite reason to Vicbear. I've eferred to Harvey Birdman a number of times, and it's pretty good, but I don't know if I've ever seen the original.

Even though I have only seen one episode of the original Space Ghost, his reincarnation has had too profound an impact on my life for me not to support him.

Plus I don't want him to break out those power bands on me...

from coast to coast to coast
my vote goes to space ghost
