Animal Division: Round 1 Match 3

Monkey Mayhem 2

Curious George: The children's favourite, who can't help but learn about the world using his not-so-scientific method of discovery. He is often exploited by the man for menial and hazardous work, but he always comes through unscathed.

Donkey Kong: The first bad "boss" of the video game era. Note we are only referring to the original barrel-throwing, girder-stomping antagonist of the original video game, rather than all the subsequent uses of the character.

Comments:
tough one.
Donkey Kong has the brawn to beat Curious George, but i think George has more integrity.
i'd rather support the main character from a book than a video game any day.
Kong doesn't have the staying power of George.
George is pretty sneaky, so he has brains over Kong's brawn.
vote goes to Curious George.

Must agree with Moxy on this one; it's a tough match, but I'll support reading over video games every day. True, DK would kick CG's ass in hand-to-barrel combat, but George knows more ways of getting out of sticky situations than any monkey I know! Plus, the Man with the Yellow Hat has ALWAYS got George's back.

George is more of a risk-taker, and more creative, and more fun. I vote for him.

I have to vote curious george on this... I'd have to say that- that particular version of DK wasn't as widely known as george was... nintendo and the like hadn't made it into every home- but everyone had a george book (or borrowed one from the library)

Despite the fact that he has been exploited and smoked!, my vote still goes to Curious George.

Tough battle it is..

Now the premise of this blog is that we talk about these "icons" that have made up our formative years, and I can only argue one way or the other based on the following concept.

When hanging out together, when would we actually bring up Curious George versus Donkey Kong? I'd suggest that when our kids are in the room and being mischevious, we would talk about the Curious one. But if we were sitting around sans bebies it is more likely that video games and gorillas would enter the conversation.

I'm sitting here at my desk and there are no kids around, but then again there are a couple of people around here that act like children, so the only way to make the decision is by a flip of the coin.

And the winner is....

HEADS - Curious George.

Pretty corney, eh?

Someone smoked Curious George?
How long did it take to dry him out? Would you use a pipe for that, or roll him into a big stogie?
Leendert, the only thing corny is the opening "Tough battle it is.." What's with the reverse syntax, Yoda?

Dude, why aren't we using the entire franchise of donkey kong? It's not like you are asking only to consider C.G. of the books and not of the cartoons. Icon's are Icon's. It's not like J-Lo can say "just consider my music and forget about that Giggly movie", OK bad example, we might want to forget about both.

I say you stick Curious George in a barrel and have Donkey Kong throw them both down those girders!

As an owner of a Nintendo 64 and a GameCube, and at least eight games starring the loveable ape, I choose George.

I think the comment about integrity is relevant - DK has changed from antagonist to friend, to hero over the course of his career, but to consider the recent incarnations would be un-ironic. George by contrast, has remained curious.

Also my 3 year old daughter walked by the computer, saw this post and said "George".

"Someone smoked Curious George?"
Now that I have dried the water that i sadly, kind of spat out when i laughed at this, i can respond and thank that anonymous poster for the giggle.

jon a., it's so good to see your softer side in support of Curious George!! It's something of which we see very little (and let's keep it that way!!).

George is the coolest singe ever. Kong is just a violent beast. George wins for his intelligence and gentleness.

Curious George for sure - I can actually still sing the theme song word for word... "Curious George, the curious little monkey..." oh great, now I'll never get that out of my head!
Lauren

My faithful sock monkey would kill me if I didn't vote for George.
