Action Division: Round 1, Match 2

Detective Half-Wit vs. Suspected Bong-Hit
Inspector Gadget: You have to give props to Gadget as a cyborg character who has never resorted to the "gun for an arm" gimmick. Where did the rest of the mini-van go when it turned into the sports car? Also: BEST. THEME SONG. EVER.
Shaggy: Most kids' introduction to drug culture (though we never knew it at the time). Were there really any monsters at all, or were they just hallucinations? Apparently responsible for most rock star hairstyles of the last ten years.

Comments:
If you think the pot smoking has-been surfer-wanna-be "Hey Shaggy, want some snacks?" Dufus has even the remote possibility of mustering an once of will power to do battle...think again. Inspector Gadget has the reach, people. And how many times could he kill someone ACCIDENTLY?? I ask you.

No. This one goes to someone who has serious control issues.

oh, this one is hard. To be honest, they both kind of give me the ick. I had a friend in elementary school that was obsessed with Inspector Gadget - in fact, I think she had a crush on him, so he's always wierded me out...

It's hard to choose - Both shows are painfully formulaic, and I suppose I'd have to watch one to have a valid opinion on the movies, but opinions being invalid have never stopped anyone from voicing them before so...

I actually would pick Broderick over Lillard, becuase I think Beuller would be more fun to hang around with than who - Lieutenant Marshall?

And the more interesting of our contestants?

Like... Shaggy!

Zoiks!
Who to choose?
I could never stand Inspector Gadget's voice and to this day i still use "Zoiks", so that must say something.
And i must disagree on the commish's theme song comment.
Go Gadget Go, Inspector Gadget beats Scooby Scooby Doo Where Are You for the title of Best Theme Song Ever (not to mention that George of the Jungle likely takes that title, but that's a whole other clash!)? I think NOT.
Shag a delic, Shag a riffic - Shaggy it is!

So we're talking about a naturally eccentric, well dressed good guy versus a 'shaggy' guy with chemically induced hallucinations? Those eccentric types are much more interesting to watch because they are whacked out all the time, and usually aren't downers on their way down. And for those technophobes amongst us, who doesn't love gadgets for all occasions, even if the Inspector can't really figure out how to use them all?

And although Daphne is a sweet looking redhead, she is from money and thinks fashion can solve everything. Personally, I'm waiting to see what Penny looks like when she grows up!!

Go Gadget Go!

Not to influence anyone, but just a point on the whole actor vs actor debate...
Though Broderick gets the nod for Ferris, he is also responsible for the worst line in movie history:
"Wow, that's a lot of fish." (Godzilla)
These few seconds of film have been known to cause brain damage if viewed too often. Also, they are reserved as a secret weapon in case aliens attempt to exterminate the human race. The logic is, after showing them this scene, the aliens will conclude that we are far too ridiculous to pose any threat, and leave us alone.

Shaggy all the way!!
Whenever I see the Inspector it feels like a cartoon rip off of Get Smart with extra gadgets for the kiddies. Wait, that's exactly what it is!! (or is it just the voice?)

this one go-go-goes to Gadget. way too many tools up his sleeve with which to take Shaggy down. plus, Shag would be too stoned to do anything in his own defense. i think Gadget would even outrun his fear-induced sprints away from danger.

bye bye Raggy. ris goes to Gadget.

For me the debate becomes then vs. now. Today I see Shaggy having the greater cachet, embarrassed to admit that I was a Gadget/Penny/Brain fan.

When these two flickered on my TV screen, Gadget had Shaggy beat. Bumbling and inept, he had at least the semblance of some courage.

Shaggy annoyed me with his bumbling and inept cowardice. What kind of hero is always running away from everything?

Living in the past, my vote goes to Inspector Gadget.
