Blob Battle!
Two amorphous gladiators competing for the "semi-solid-shape-changing" championship!
Barbapapa: A family man who is gentle, wise and benevolent. Garnering popularity with children, (and architects, remember the bubble shaped modular bungalow?) throughout the world.
Shmoo: A wild and crazy blob-about-town, who is the hit of the club circuit with his harp seal-like good looks and helium-induced patois. The shmoo referred to here is of course the animated version from the 70's cartoons, and not the tool for social commentary used in the original Li'l Abner comic strip.

What did the Shmoo ever really do? I think he mostly got Fred and Barney in trouble, but c'mon Barbapapa grew his whole family in a garden. How cool is that? Plus i think BP could change into way more shapes and things (clickety click Barba trick) than the shmoo. The clear winner and coolest icon would be Barbapapa.

I have to vote for Barbapapa, for some of the aforementioned reasons, but also because I object on principle to the moustache.

This is a tough one. There's the every haunting theme song to Barbapapa vs. the loveable voice of the Schmoo.
For some reason, I relate Schmoo to the most famous of all animated icons - Hong Kong Fooey. They must have been on at the same time, so Schmoo gets my vote.

I liked that the Barbas created their own world and reality without apology. The origin and identity of the Shmoo was never satsifactorily explained to me.
Plus the prepubescent cooing of the white blob was quite annoying (considering it was echoed by the mindless cool kids on the playground at recess).

How can you vote against a blob that can be both in a wholesome family cartoon strip and who hits the club circuit? So he's not a 'shapeshifter' as it were - he's got the personality that fits any occasion!!

Of course, I've got to support my nominee Shmoo! Although Barbapapa is a worthy opponent, he is lacking the whiskers (whaa....?)
Barbapapa wins this one. He's so versatile. In a fight, he could turn into any weapon and clickety-click kick the Schmoo's ass!
